In the meantime, please visit my brand-spanking new website that I recently started with a group of friends. It’s called Gizmomash. It’s a new tech-junkie blog website based out of Toronto. It’s also one of the reasons why I had to put T.O.Bites on the backburner – I spent a lot of time working on the creation and launching of Gizmomash, but I hope to return to food blogging soon.

Although it was some what pricey, I gave it a generally positive review about a year and a half ago, and I’m sad to see it go.

In the artery-clogging news section today, KFC has announced that their double down sandwich is headed to Canada starting October 18th but thankfully only for a limited time.

In case you’ve been living in a forest where all the food available is healthy, green, and organic, the KFC double down sandwich has been drawing controversy in the States where it’s nearly 600 calories of lard chock full of hypertension inducing sodium has been chowed down in the millions within just a month of launching the food item. The sandwich, “aimed at working class consumers” who want more bang for their buck, substitutes two pieces of deep fried breaded chicken as the bun and contains cheese and bacon in the middle.

I’m not surprised we’re getting it here, considering the deep fried butter balls at the CNE were such a hit. Though I was in the States during the launch of double down last April and didn’t bother to give it a try, I think I’ll be willing to take one for the team when it comes out in less than two weeks.

The sandwich arrives on October 18th and will thankfully be gone by November 14th. No word yet on the cost of it here, but in the US the sandwich goes for $5.95 alone, or $6.99 in a combo.

If you love crowds and love the yearly bottle-necking of them near Pape and Danforth, then be sure to check out this years Taste of the Danforth. It starts today at 6pm but you can probably go earlier (like me) and it runs all weekend ending Sunday at 8pm. It goes on between between Broadview and Jones. Your best bet is to start off at Jones (Donlands station) and walk westerly towards Broadview as the crowds are usually less dense east of Pape.

I meant to post about this weeks ago but I found this quite interesting. During the Pride festivities, they were selling frozen sorbet in a carved out fruit shell. I remember they had lemon, coconut, and I believe pineapple but I can’t really remember. They were $4 each though which was a bit pricey, but everything was a little overpriced on the street that day. It ranks up almost has high as the Del Monte packaged fruit banana, but I give it points for creativity. I haven’t seen any in any stores anywhere yet.
